WHAT’S IN OUR BURNETT?!
The one with Ore…
At Leo Burnett Lagos, we love to celebrate our Leos and show the world who they are at work and outside work. “What’s In Our Burnett?!” celebrates anything and everything we do and what inspires our beautiful process.
This week, we are spotlighting one of our Leos, Oreoluwa Edozie, to celebrate her. We want to tell everyone more about her and the amazing work she does here. #excited! 💃🏻🕺🏽
What Do You Do At Leo Burnett Lagos?
I come here to dance *kidding*.
I work at Leo Burnett Lagos as an Account Manager. Currently, I’m a dedicated Account Manager on the Beiersdorf Nivea account, managing five countries across Eastern & Western Africa — Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Cote d’ivoire & Angola.
Interesting! Have you traveled to any of these 5 countries?
Not yet unfortunately — we’re in a *panorama* lol -pandemic. When the opportunity does come, I would absolutely love to.
How did you get into account management?
Interesting story! Let’s start with how I got into advertising:
I finished school at a very young age and I was so confused on what I wanted to do next. I started working with every and every company — I hopped a lot. I think I had already worked at like 5 different places before my dad insisted that job hopping isn’t sustainable and I need to be focused and find a career path. I studied psychology and at the time, I really didn’t know what a clear career path looked like.
So my dad had a chat with his friend in church one day-God rest his soul, and he said he was going to talk to a friend of his to help me out with finding that career path. He actually went to church with my CV in the pockets of his Agbada. After service, I went to greet my dad, his friend and that friend of his friend. The friend was Biodun Shobanjo.
Within 3–4 minutes of conversation, I sorta gave Biodun Shobanjo a make-shift elevator shift detailing my experience at my last company. He was impressed with my pitch and told me he’ll see what he can do. Well, the next day, I woke up to a text from Insight inviting me for an interview. I then wrote an exam with 3000 other candidates — one of the most thorough recruitment processes I’ve ever been through.
August of 2014 after 5 months of the process, I started at Insight as an Executive trainee and as they say, the rest is history.
What’s Your average work day like?
It’s usually very busy- once I get on, I start my morning with a series of briefing sessions or check-in meetings. I also have a lot of calls with clients, the creative guys, briefing them and reviewing what they’ve done. I also put presentations together, put costings together — estimates and all of that. My average work day is just generally absorbed and centered inside what I do. It can be really fun as well.
What do you love most about Account Management?
I like the part where I’m constantly meeting new people by the virtue of clients that i work with. I have relationships today not because I went to school with these people or I know them from my childhood, but because a lot of people have become friends and family from being clients and co-workers. I love that I get to meet people and also understand how people work and operate- different personality types, different clients and a lot more.
I also like that it helps me develop the skill to work in fast-paced environments or situations, because account managers are working with different clients and on different projects at the same time.
What I love the most is seeing the work come to life after all the rigorous work that has gone into it. I love seeing my baby out there!
What’s your most valued work principle?
I think it’s discipline. I just cannot be not disciplined. I did have to do a lot of adjusting though because the Ore you see now isn’t the same Ore in 2014. It took a lot of training and also my childhood background — my dad loved process and structure around things. I’m now wired like that. If you’re disciplined, you can do anything.
What are your must-haves for a successful work day?
Food! I love food.
Food, power, water, a good internet connection — I HATE BAD INTERNET.
Okay maybe music too.
And my laptop and phone!
Who are you after 5:30?
I’m just the same boring person lol *kidding.
I’m a straight-up mom after 5:30. Everything after 5:30 is about my son
